It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with an estimated over 100 million devotees visiting every year. Ayyappan's temple is situated amidst 18 hills. The temple is situated on a hilltop at an altitude of 1260 m (4,133 ft) above mean sea level, and is surrounded by mountains and dense forests. The dense forest (Periyar Tiger Reserve) around the temple is known as Poomkavanam. Temples are located on each of the hills surrounding Sabarimala. While functional and intact temples exist at many places in the surrounding areas, like Nilakkal Kalaketty and Karimala, remnants of old temples survive to this day on the remaining hills.

Perunthenaruvi Waterfall are waterfalls 36 km from Pathanamthitta in Pathanamthitta District, Central Travancore region, Kerala State, India. It is a popular tourist destination. It is situated in Vechoochira Panchayat. The name "Perunthenaruvi" means "The Great Honey Stream". Located on the Western Ghats of the Sahyadri Range, Perunthenaruvi is famous for the waterfalls there. The waterfalls are known for their wide area, rather than their height. The stream later unites with the Pamba River. It is beautiful and dangerous at the same time.

Parunthumpara is a small village, located between Peermade and Thekkady. The word parunth in the local language means Eagle and para means rock. It is called Parunthumpara or eagle rock because of a large area around like an eagle. It is 6 km from Peermade, 25 km from Thekkady & 3 km From National Highway 183. ( Kottayam Kumily road).This area provides a bird's eye view of an endless stretch of green forest land and low-lying areas. Parunthumpara is six km from Peerumade on National Highway 220 and is increasingly being visited by tourists who are on their way to Thekkady and others as well. If the sky is clear, visitors can get the view of the Sabarimala forests.

Panchalimedu. A viewpoint, according to legend one of the many hiding places of the Pandavas and Panchali. From a pond known as Panchalikkulam the "Makarajyothi", can be seen, the divine flame lit during the pilgrimage season in Sabarimala.

Illickal Mala, located in kottayam,Kerala, India, measures approximately 3400 ft. above sea level. Numerous mountain streams in this peak, flow down to form the Meenachil River. Tourists must trek 3 km to reach the summit of the peak.
